The Sorrel Hibiscus plant (scientifically known as Hibiscus sabdariffa) is a tropical shrub famous for its fleshy, deep-red calyces (the cup-like structures at the base of the flower). Unlike ornamental hibiscus, this variety often called Roselle, Jamaica Sorrel, or Florida Cranberry is primarily grown for its edible parts and medicinal properties. Sorrel is a species of hibiscus whose dried red calyces are used to make tart, ruby-coloured drinks and teas.
